Deir Anba Bisada

The monastery of Saint Bisada is located a few kilometres south of Akhmim, at the edge of a village, and surrounded by a plastered wall. A modern gate leads to a courtyard with modern buildings of the monastery next to dwellings of the villagers.

The gate to the church is rectangular with a pointed arch and two pilasters. Four steps behind this gate direct the visitor to the long and rectangular narthex perpendicular to the central axis of the church. Its central part is traversed by a flat roof of palm tree and reed but the other ends of the narthex are covered with a barrel vault. One side of the narthex has a small niche with a square stone at its bottom.

Behind the narthex and parallel to it there is a long rectangular room divided by low and slightly pointed arches. It is covered with several domes. This room is flanked by a wooden wall with doors.
